Tempered Glass

This product is used most often for shelves, some fireplaces and table tops. Tempered glass breaks into many small pieces when broken and usually never cracks.

Ceramic Glass

These products are made to withstand very high temperatures and are often used in woodstoves, gas stoves, ovens, halogen lamps, and laboratories. Ceramic glasses do not shatter. If broken, the piece will crack into large shards.

Insulated Unit / Dual Pane

This product consists of two panes of tempered glass separated by a spacer. The space between the two panes of glass is filled with air. These are most often used in residential window applications.

Fire Rated Glass

New Product This product is used for applications ranging from openings such as windows, side lites, and transoms, to doors, storefronts and glass walls where fire protective glass and fire resistive glass is required by code.

Mirror

This product is used to replace any mirror. Mirrors are not tempered and if broken will break into large shards.

Shower Doors / Panels

These products are made with 3/8” or 1/2" Tempered Glass with a selection of hardware such as hinges and handles as well as options such as bright guard to keep your glass looking like new for years.

Laminate / Safety Glass

This product is often used in doors and windows for security to resist burglar intrusion or if accidentally broken to keep a safeguard on the door and window until replaced. This as well makes a good sound barrier for single pane glass applications. This type of safety glass holds together when shattered.

Annealed Glass

Often used in small pieces. This product is not considered a safety glass. Annealed glass does not shatter into small pieces. If broken, the piece will crack into large shards. Maximum Annealed Glass Size: 29-15/16" x 47-15/16". For pieces larger than this please select Tempered Glass.

Tempered Laminate

This is a unique product that provides the surface strength and durability of tempered glass and the security of laminated glass. Tempered Laminated Glass, if broken, will break into small pieces yet be held together. This is often used in overhead and panel applications.

Types of glass

Annealed glass – The word annealed refers to how the glass is heated and cooled. This type of glass is perfect for windows in low traffic areas.

Tempered glass – This glass has been treated in such a way, that when it breaks it, shatters into small cube like pieces, and is much safer than sharp jagged pieces of glass. Used in glass shelves, glass tabletops and glass shower doors.

Ceramic glass – Ceramic glass shares many of the same properties as both glass and ceramic. They are great in places that change temperature quickly, like a wood stove or cooktop.

Laminated glass – This type of glass remains intact when broken, due to the film between the panes. It is used in many applications but mostly windows and doors.

Special Pattern and Shape Cuts

Do you need a unique shape of glass for your project? Through custom glass cutting our skilled craftsmen can make nearly any special pattern or shape you need. Just share the dimensions and specifications of your desired cut – if circular, include the radius or diameter – within the comments section of our order form.

The best way to cut tempered glass in a special shape would be to provide an electronic rending, or CAD format.

Custom Glass Cutting

By using the water jet we can cut glass within 1/16 of an inch. Not only is this method precise in how it cuts, but also allows shapes to be cut that would otherwise not be possible.

With the technology of today we can load a pattern onto the computer and create a program for the water jet to cut. After we simply load the program, the water jet cuts the glass faster than our workers could, and does a very accurate job.

Once I place my order, when will it ship? Will my order ship the same day?

We live up to our name! Most orders are shipped within 1 business day after being submitted and approved. We do our best to ship orders received before 12:00pm (Noon) Pacific Time for all the same day they are ordered but generally ship no later than the next business day. If your piece is extremely labor intensive (ex. IGU, cut to a pattern), larger than 24″ x 48″, requires edgework, or an uncommon tint/thickness, it may take us extra time to get it just right. Custom cut glass Portland can also be scheduled for Will Call pickup.

Once your order is placed, your email order confirmation will display the estimated production time and estimated delivery dates based upon your order specifications and the delivery option chosen.

What is the exact thickness of the glass?

Glass thicknesses are shown as a Nominal Thickness, meaning “in name only”, used solely for identification. These are commonly listed as 1/8″, 5/32″, 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″. The nominal size may not match the exact thickness but will be within the acceptable industry-wide thickness range and can correspond to a large number of highly standardized dimensions and tolerances.

How do I measure a radius?

It is simple to measure a radius by using our radius measurement tool. Download the tool by clicking here. Print the tool. When printing please make sure page scaling is set to none. To verify you have printed the tool to the correct scale measure the 1″ Scale Line at the bottom of the page. It should measure out to exactly 1″. If it does not measure correctly please check your printer settings.

The correct radius will fill the entire curved area on the template.

What is the difference between tempered glass and ceramic glass

Tempered glass is regular glass that has been heat treated to increase strength and thermal shock resistance to prevent injury by changing the break pattern. Tempered glass is used in applications where heat, mechanical strength and safety are a factor.

For example, the glass on motor vehicles is tempered to make it strong and less dangerous when it shatters or breaks. Tempered glass is also used in fireplace doors, on masonry and prefabricated fireplaces equipped with a grate to hold the burning wood.

Tempered glass can withstand constant temperatures of 470 deg F. If tempered glass is exposed to higher temperatures, it gradually weakens the structure of the glass thus making it more susceptible to breakage. If a piece of tempered glass is exposed to continuous temperatures of 600 deg F or more, the glass will shatter into small pieces.

Ceramic Glass commonly referred to as glass but it is actually a transparent ceramic. Unlike true glass, Ceramics can withstands continuous exposure to high temperatures without fear of destruction. It is also resistant to failure due to temperature variation. It is the ideal solution for many wood stoves and fireplaces where glass panels are less than 6 inches from the flames. We carry two different types of ceramic glass. PyroCeram(R) can withstand long term temperatures up to 1256 deg F. NeoCeram(R) can withstand long term temperatures up to 1470 deg F.

Why is the price for NeoCeram or PyroCeram so much cheaper that other glass shops?

What is a seamed edge? How do I know if I need edgework?

A “seamed” edge is one that has been lightly sanded to remove any sharp burrs. Glass with a seamed edge is safe to handle but is not decorative. It is our standard finish and is available at no extra charge. We will never send out glass with sharp edges that you could not handle safely without being cut.

The seamed edge is recommended for all applications in which the edges of the glass are not exposed.

For example, if your glass will be installed into the frame of a fireplace door and no one will see the edges once the glass has been installed, a seamed edge is all you need.

For shelves, table tops, or the like, you may want to consider upgrading to a more finished/decorate edge.

I tried the tempered glass inserts, I got from you, for my wood stove last night. What a difference it made in the amount of heat that was given off by the stove. I guess at least 25% more heat is radiated out compared to the old metals inserts that were in there before. This will save me a lot of wood over the winter.
